Vasquez to Vegas

Tommie Vegas was born Tommie Lee Vasquez in Downey, CA. After spending only 3 short years of her life in El Monte, CA, her family packed up and moved to Las Vegas where she spent her childhood. Many think this is why she took on the name 'Vegas' as her stage name. Much to everyone's suprise, it isn't!

Tommie grew up as third cousin to Pat Vegas and Lolly Vegas, frontmen of the first all-Native American rock group known as 'Redbone'. For years she grew up with the wonderful stories of Native American pride, music and memories. As she got older, she learned that Pat and Lolly inspired Native American's everywhere to break into the music industry and pursue their dreams. Many followed in their footsteps and did just that.

Inspired by her cousin's hard work and dedication to their Native and entertainment roots, Tommie felt it was significant to carry on the Vegas name to her acting career. Native Americans have definitely made their mark on the acting and filming scene, but is still scarce. Tommie wishes to open more doors for Native Americans, to inspire Native actors and filmmakers and to show the beauty that is held within Native American culture all while braking the stereotype.

Tommie is a registered member of The Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, which resides on the California side of Lake Havasu. She is also of the Yaqui and Blackfeet bloodline as well.

DID YOU KNOW?

Tommie is not only Native American, but also Mexican, German and Danish!
